Cherokee Brick
Cherokee Brick have delivered construction solutions since 1877.
This website redesign is a project I worked on during my time at G/O Digital as a senior designer on a small digital marketing team. From discovery, wire framing, prototyping and UX/UI design, I was the sole designer on this project. I teamed up with one of our developers to deliver the final product in May of 2017.

Target User
Homebuilders, contractors and remodeling professionals
My Role
UX/UI Designer
Problem
How do we highlight the company’s various brick styles and illustrate their benefits in a more modern way.

My Process
2. Architect

1. Discover
Content Review
To get an idea of the company and a rough idea of the content I had to work with, I reviewed their website from top to bottom. I took plenty of notes in preparation for the client interview.
Client Interview
To understand what the needs of the client were, I jumped on a call with them along with one of our project managers. We walked through the entire site and I asked many questions about their likes, dislikes, needs and their competition. We wanted to make sure we knew all the issues that needed to be addressed during the redesign of the site. We discovered their goals were to highlight the company’s various brick styles and communicate the benefits of brick and its sustainability.
Competitive Analysis
To understand who the competition was, I analyzed a few of their competitors’ sites including South Georgia Brick and North Georgia Brick. I looked at different aspects of their sites including their design style, how they displayed their products and their contact methods.

2. Architect
Wireframe
After gathering the information from discovery, I began making rough hand drawn wire frames of the home screen as a starting point for the design.

Prototype
Using the wire frame as a layout guide, I then designed a mid-fidelity prototype of the home screen. Once complete, I jumped on another call with the client to go over the prototype. Due to lack of time, the prototype was not functional but I walked the client through each section of the home screen to make sure the layout addressed all of their needs as discussed during discovery. With a clear picture of the overall layout, the client signed off and we were ready to move into hi-fidelity design.

3. Design
Style Guide
I started by creating a very simple style guide with new fonts and a more modern color palette.

UI Design
I then applied the style guide to the mid-fidelity prototype to create a high-fidelity mockup of the home screen.
Client Presentation
To get the final sign off for designing the rest of the site, I once again jumped on a call with the client and our project manager to present the design. I walked through each section explaining my design decisions and how they addressed their goals.

Final Design/Handoff
With the high-fidelity design approved, I then began wireframing the subpages and taking them through the same process as the homepage. I also designed a mobile version of each page in preparation for handoff to one of our developers. Once all the subpages were designed and signed off on, I cleaned up my design files, made notes on animations, button states, etc. and sent the packaged files to the developer working on this project.

What I would do differently
The project was launched after my time at G/O Digital. So if I had the opportunity to push this even further, this is what I would do:
- User testing to gauge the ease of use
- Analyze Google analytics
- Add more UI animation
